Can Woody Allen please disappear now?
I was positively horrified when MSG network cut to Woody Allen during a timeout and acted like nothing was going on. The rest of the world knows full well Allen’s adopted daughter Dylan Farrow recently publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her when she was 7-years-old, charges that originally surfaced in 1993, although Dylan now says her former stepfather’s inappropriate behavior towards her was first noticed three years earlier. According to Dylan, Allen had already been forced to undergo counseling in this regard prior to the incident in the attic. Unfortunately, that counseling did not prevent Allen from injuring Dylan for life when he finally crossed the line.
It’s a tragedy Dylan can’t get closure, something that can’t happen as long as Allen asserts his complete and total innocence. Meanwhile, it’s pretty obvious he harbored sexual designs towards his little girl, even if the extent on which he acted upon those illicit desires may be in dispute. Legally, it makes little difference since the statute on limitations has long since run out.
Allen obviously has a lot of money and some very powerful allies, and he is putting all his effort into trying to sweep this story under a rug, but that is not likely to happen. And the more Allen protests his innocence, the more guilty he looks. The latest nail in his coffin was a damning interview he gave a few years before marrying Dylan’s mom, Mia Farrow, in which the 41-year-old Woody says, “I’m open-minded about sex. I’m not above reproach; if anything, I’m below reproach. I mean, if I was caught in a love nest with fifteen 12-year-old girls tomorrow, people would think, yeah, I always knew that about him.”
Two false factoids that keep circulating is that Allen “passed a lie detector test” and the charges against him originated with “Mia Farrow coaching Dylan” what to say. According to Allen, Farrow had just discovered an affair he was having with another adopted daughter and she invented these accusations out of jealousy? There are some serious problems with this story, however, since Allen refused to take a state monitored lie detector test and instead orchestrated his own test, which was ruled inadmissible as evidence? Meanwhile, Dylan revealed her accusation to her doctor, and it was the doctor that initially contacted the authorities, not Mia Farrow.
